Job Details
- Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
- Shift Length: 36 or 48 hours
- Patient Acuity: Approximately 60%-80% of ED patients are admitted; many ED rooms serve as "ED Holding"
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Floating:
- Optional floating to Pediatric ED
- Expected floating to Adult PCUs based on staffing needs
- Potential floating to ED Holding and Trauma Department of Emergency (DOE)
- Weekend Requirement: Scheduled as needed (Saturday and Sunday days; Friday, Saturday, Sunday nights)
- On-call: No
- Block Schedule: Not accommodated
- Locals: No locals accepted within 75 miles
- Pending License: Accepted (NM license can pend at time of submission)
- Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Greater than 7 days requires approval
- Guaranteed Hours: Contracted hours per week (36/40/48); facility may call off up to 3 times during a 13-week assignment
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Emergency Department
- Required Years of Experience: 2 years (will review candidates with 1.5 years)
- Level 1 Trauma Experience: Preferred
- Prior Travel Experience: Strongly preferred but not required if candidate has 2+ years Level 1 trauma experience
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or ARC (RQI not accepted)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Must have before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification - Can pend until compliance document due date before start
- Additional Certifications (may be required depending on unit):
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) for NICU, L&D, Mother/Baby
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
- Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) for Behavioral Health units
- Pass/Fail Testing (Relias Basic Dysrhythmia Exam) required for ED and other units
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
- Certification (Miscellaneous) MOAB for Behavioral Health units
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Valid non-local driver’s license required (ID cards not accepted)
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal check within 30 days of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within one year of start
- Education verification or diploma/transcript if third-party verification unavailable
- Fingerprinting required onsite during orientation (unless done within past 12 months)
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 1 year prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Fit mask test within 1 year (specific mask types required)
- Drug testing within 30 days of start (negative result required)
- Immunizations:
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required
- Hepatitis B: Declination, series, or titer required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive IGG titer required (history of disease not accepted)
- Flu vaccine required year-round with exemptions accepted
- COVID vaccination required; religious and medical exemptions accepted with signed exemption form
- Work History Verification: Minimum 3 years of previous work experience verified
- References: Two professional references within three years of hire
- Skills Checklist: Required
- Traveler Compliance Form: Must be completed and uploaded prior to start
- Cerner Training Attestation: Required for RNs starting with 8/4/25 orientation group (optional test-out available)
Additional Notes
- No RQI certifications accepted for required certs
- COVID vaccination is required, but exemptions are accepted with proper documentation
- Candidates must have TNCC certification before submission
- NIH Stroke Certification can pend until compliance document due date before start
- Facility is not near public transportation; candidates must have reliable transportation
- Candidates must not live within 75 miles of the facility
- Overtime rules: OT after 48 hours on contracts signed on or after 10/30/2025
This position is ideal for experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurses with Level 1 trauma experience who are comfortable with a fast-paced, high-acuity environment and flexible scheduling including weekends and floating within the hospital. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory if the candidate meets the experience requirements.
