ICU Registered Nurse Job Details
- Location: Newport News, VA (23601) – Virginia nursing jobs
- Setting: Critical Care Float Pool (SICU, MICU, CCU, OICU)
- Employment Type: Travel Contract – Travel nurse opportunity
- Contract Duration: 13 weeks
- Start Date: January 19, 2026
- End Date: April 20, 2026
- Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:00)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
- Orientation: 40 hours
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state
- Minimum 18 months of recent ICU or critical care nursing experience
- Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (American Heart Association preferred)
- Experience with EPIC charting system required
- Specialty experience within the last year in ICU/critical care
- Stroke education (NIH) required
- Ability to float between SICU, MICU, CCU, OICU, CVT, and ED as needed
- Flexible scheduling; must be able to work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled
- One supervisory reference required for submission (two for compliance)
ICU Nurse Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in multiple ICU units
- Manage complex patient cases including trauma, sepsis, DKA, neuro, cardiac, and oncology
- Administer blood products, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and manage ventilators
- Assist with advanced procedures: chest tube insertion/removal, central line care, arterial line management
- Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and cardiac dysrhythmias
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
- Float to various critical care units and the emergency department as needed
- Maintain strict infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions
- Document all patient care accurately in the EPIC charting system
