ICU Registered Nurse Job Details

• Location: Newport News, VA (23601) – Virginia nursing jobs
• Setting: Critical Care Float Pool (SICU, MICU, CCU, OICU)
• Employment Type: Travel Contract – Travel nurse opportunity
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Start Date: January 19, 2026
• End Date: April 20, 2026
• Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:00)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Weekend Coverage: Every other weekend required
• Orientation: 40 hours

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Virginia or compact state
• Minimum 18 months of recent ICU or critical care nursing experience
• Certifications: ACLS, BLS, NIHSS (American Heart Association preferred)
• Experience with EPIC charting system required
• Specialty experience within the last year in ICU/critical care
• Stroke education (NIH) required
• Ability to float between SICU, MICU, CCU, OICU, CVT, and ED as needed
• Flexible scheduling; must be able to work every other weekend and holidays as scheduled
• One supervisory reference required for submission (two for compliance)

ICU Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to critically ill patients in multiple ICU units
• Manage complex patient cases including trauma, sepsis, DKA, neuro, cardiac, and oncology
• Administer blood products, titrate cardiac and vasoactive drips, and manage ventilators
• Assist with advanced procedures: chest tube insertion/removal, central line care, arterial line management
• Interpret arterial blood gases (ABGs) and cardiac dysrhythmias
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams: IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
• Float to various critical care units and the emergency department as needed
• Maintain strict infection prevention protocols and isolation precautions
• Document all patient care accurately in the EPIC charting system
