Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

• Location: Dayton, Ohio (45409) – Ohio nursing jobs
• Unit: Pulmonary/Cardiac Stepdown Unit
• Assignment Length: 13 weeks
• Start Date: January 5, 2026
• End Date: April 6, 2026
• Shift: Day shifts, 4x12-hour (07:00 - 19:30)
• Hours per Week: 36 or 48 hours (OT paid after 48 hours for 48-hour contracts)
• Employment Type: Travel nursing job
• Patient Ratios: Targeted 1:4, may be up to 1:5-6
• Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Required (every other weekend/holiday)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 1.5 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown or Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN experience
• Experience with 1:5 patient ratios in stepdown/PCU settings
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (any state; compact nursing licenses accepted)
• BLS and ACLS certifications required
• Must pass online EKG telemetry competency assessment prior to start
• Ventilator experience required
• EPIC charting experience preferred
• Trauma Level I experience preferred
• Travel nursing experience preferred
• Ability to float to other campuses as needed
• Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients with complex cardiac and pulmonary conditions (COPD, CHF, pneumonia, sepsis, post-COVID, DKA)
• Collaborate in a team nursing model with another RN and a Patient Care Technician
• Manage ventilated patients, tracheostomies, bipap/high-flow oxygen, cardiac drips (no titration), insulin drips, and heparin protocols
• Interpret and monitor cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias
• Perform wound care, central line and PICC management, chest tube care, and advanced nursing procedures
• Float to other units/campuses as assigned, supporting the healthcare team
• Utilize EPIC for clinical documentation and charting
• Participate in orientation and complete required modules
