Med/Surg Oncology RN Job Details
- Location: Tyler, Texas 75701 (East Texas nursing jobs)
- Unit: 6 North – Med/Surg Oncology (36 private rooms, telemetry capability)
- Assignment Length: 13 weeks (Start: 1/26/2026 – End: 4/27/2026)
- Shift: Day shift, 3x12-hour shifts per week (07:00 – 19:00)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Patient Ratio: 1:6
- Weekend Requirement: Half of contract
- Floating: Required as needed
- Charting: Epic EMR
Registered Nurse Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Oncology RN experience
- Previous travel nursing experience required
- Proficiency with Epic charting system
- BLS certification required
- NIHSS and Chemo Certification preferred
- Strong clinical skills in: Chemotherapy Administration, Accessing/Managing Ports, Blood Product Administration, Central line blood draw, Colostomy care, CPAP/BiPAP, Feeding tube care, Heparin, HFNC, Insulin, Dysrhythmia interpretation and management, Isolation Precautions, Med/Surg, Monitoring Chemotherapy, MS/Tele, Oxygen administration, PCA, Peripheral Line Care, Phlebotomy, PICC line management, Pre/Post Hemodialysis, Renal failure, Starting/maintaining IVs, Telemetry, Rapid Response/Code teams, Wound Care/Wound Vac
- No first-time travelers
- Cannot reside in the following Texas counties: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris
Med/Surg Oncology RN Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a busy Med/Surg Oncology unit
- Manage a patient load of up to 6 patients per shift, including medical-surgical and oncology/hematology cases
- Administer chemotherapy and monitor for side effects
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Pharmacy, Social Services, and Rapid Response Teams
- Float to other hospital units as required
- Document patient care using Epic EMR
- Participate in rapid response/code teams
- Educate patients and families throughout the care process
