Cardiac Stepdown RN Job Details

Location: Louisville, Kentucky 40207
Assignment Type: Travel nursing job
Unit: Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit (CVU)
Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM), 3 shifts per week
Duration: 13-week contract (Start: 1/12/2026 – End: 4/13/2026)
Hours per Week: 36
Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Required by rotation

Registered Nurse Qualifications

Minimum 2 years of recent Cardiac Stepdown, CVU, or acute care nursing experience
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kentucky or compact state
BLS and ACLS certifications required; NIHSS certification preferred
Previous travel nursing experience required
Proficiency with Epic electronic charting system
Must pass advanced dysrhythmia (EKG) competency exam
Experience with chest tubes, epicardial wires, sheath/radial band management, and cardiac drips (Amiodarone, NTG, Cardizem)
Ability to manage a 4-5:1 patient ratio during night shifts
Two professional nursing references required

Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality nursing care to adult and geriatric patients in a 16-bed Cardiovascular Stepdown Unit
Monitor and manage cardiac drips and advanced cardiac devices (chest tubes, epicardial wires, radial/femoral site management)
Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and respond to changes in patient condition
Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including IV, respiratory, physical therapy, pharmacy, and rapid response
Float to similar nursing units as needed
Document patient care accurately using Epic charting
Participate in weekend and holiday rotations
Maintain compliance with facility policies, including COVID-19 vaccination (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
