PCU RN Job Details

Location: Dayton, Ohio (45409) – Ohio nursing jobs
Unit: Interventional Cardiology Advanced Care / Progressive Care Unit
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: January 5, 2026
End Date: April 6, 2026
Shift: Night Shift, 12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 or 48 hours accepted
Employment Type: Travel Registered Nurse
Patient Ratios: Target 1:4, may be up to 1:5-6
Unit Census: 31 patients, 34 beds
Scrub Color: Navy Blue

PCU RN Qualifications

Minimum 1 year of recent Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Stepdown nursing experience (ICU experience not applicable)
Experience with 1:5 patient ratios in PCU or Stepdown units
Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in any state; compact license accepted
BLS and ACLS certifications required
NIHSS certification preferred
EPIC charting experience required
Must pass online EKG/tele competency assessment prior to start
Experience with arterial blood gas (ABG) draws
Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
Travel nursing experience preferred
Availability to work every other weekend and holiday
Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered)

PCU RN Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality nursing care to cardiac, respiratory, vascular, and post-surgical patients in the PCU
Administer and monitor cardiac drips (Cardizem, Cardene, dobutamine, dopamine, heparin, nitro, insulin)
Care for post-cardiac catheterization, ablation, pacemaker, and ICD patients
Perform and interpret arterial blood gas (ABG) draws
Collaborate in a team nursing model with RNs, LPNs, and PCTs
Float to other units as needed, including high-risk respiratory/COVID units and nearby campuses
Utilize EPIC for clinical documentation and charting
Follow isolation precautions and infection control protocols
Participate in rapid response/code teams
Support interdisciplinary care with IV teams, respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, and more
