Labor & Delivery RN Job Details

• Location: Arlington Heights, IL 60005 (Chicago metro area)
• Healthcare Setting: NCH Labor and Delivery Unit
• Assignment Type: Travel RN
• Start Date: January 11, 2026
• End Date: April 5, 2026
• Contract Duration: 12 weeks
• Nursing Shift: 12-hour nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
• Hours per Week: 36
• Schedule: 3 shifts per week, including every 3rd weekend (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday Requirement: None
• Floating: Rare (post-partum only)
• Dress Code: Hospital-issued surgical scrubs
• Orientation: 1 day on the floor, 1 day in the OR (day shift)

Registered Nurse Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of recent Labor & Delivery RN experience
• Active Illinois Registered Nurse license
• Current BLS certification (American Heart Association)
• NRP certification
• Basic Fetal Monitoring competency within the last 2 years
• Experience with Epic EMR preferred

Labor & Delivery Nurse Responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive nursing care to laboring patients and newborns
• Perform and document Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), including interpretation
• Utilize fetal scalp electrodes and intrauterine pressure catheters (IUPC)
• Operate IV pumps, infusion devices, and epidural infusion pumps
• Monitor maternal vital signs and conduct newborn assessments
• Respond to obstetric emergencies using hemorrhage carts and code carts
• Perform bedside point-of-care testing (glucose, urine, etc.)
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary healthcare team, including OB techs and clinical support staff
