NICU RN Job Details

  • Location: Clinton, Maryland (20735) – Greater Washington, D.C. area
  • Healthcare Setting: Level II Special Care Nursery (NICU)

  • End Date: April 27, 2026
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Night shifts, 3x12-hour (19:00 - 07:30)
  • Hours per Week: 36
  • Weekend/Holiday Coverage: Every other weekend and holiday required

NICU Registered Nurse Qualifications

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland or compact state
  • Minimum 2 years of recent Level II NICU nursing experience
  • Current BLS, NRP, and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications
  • Experience with CPAP and neonatal respiratory support required
  • Proficiency with Cerner electronic charting system
  • First-time travel nurses with NICU experience encouraged to apply
  • Two supervisor references required
  • Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)

NICU RN Responsibilities

  • Deliver specialized nursing care for neonates in a Level II NICU, ensuring stability of cardiopulmonary, neurologic, metabolic, and thermal functions
  • Monitor and manage respiratory support, including High Flow O2, CPAP, Bubble CPAP, and mechanical ventilation
  • Assist with neonatal procedures such as lumbar puncture and endotracheal resuscitation for newborns 32 weeks or greater
  • Initiate, modify, or discontinue treatments per protocols or physician orders
  • Float to Postpartum and Labor & Delivery units for neonatal care as needed
  • Perform central and peripheral IV insertions, lab draws, and administer IV antibiotics
  • Educate and support families regarding neonatal care and treatment plans
  • Stabilize and prepare newborns less than 32 weeks for transport to Level III NICU facilities
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare teams including respiratory therapy, radiology, pharmacy, and social services
