- Job Title: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse / Stepdown Nurse (Travel RN)
- Unit: PCU/Stepdown Unit (8S - OBS/Intermediate Care)
- Unit Size: 16 beds
- Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 with high admission/discharge turnover
- Shift: 12-hour Nights (Every Other Weekend & Holiday)
- Assignment Duration: 13 weeks (Start: 1/5/2026, End: 4/6/2026)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Estimated Weekly Pay: $1800 - $1890

PCU Registered Nurse Job Requirements
- Active RN license in Ohio or compact state (required for travel nurse placement)
- Minimum 1 year recent RN experience in PCU/stepdown unit or progressive care
- Current BLS and ACLS; NIH Stroke Certification required (can obtain prior to patient care)
- Dysrhythmia Exam required (study guide provided)
- EPIC EHR training and Critical Care Course preferred — experience with Epic preferred
- Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays
- Must be willing to travel; local candidates not accepted (travel nurse assignment)
PCU / Stepdown Nurse Responsibilities
- Perform initial and ongoing patient assessments; develop and implement individualized PCU care plans
- Administer medications safely per hospital policy and monitor for adverse effects
- Coordinate patient care and serve as point of contact for interdisciplinary teams (nursing, physicians, respiratory therapy)
- Advocate for patient safety and participate in clinical quality improvement initiatives
- Provide care for patients with multi-system organ failure, trauma, and post-operative neuro/spine cases common in stepdown settings
- Monitor and manage central lines, wound vacs, hemovacs, JP drains, and feeding tubes
- Utilize advanced respiratory modalities including BiPAP, CPAP, and High Flow Nasal Cannula
- Initiate and titrate cardiac drips and provide pre/post cardiac catheterization care
- Educate patients and families throughout the course of illness and recovery; provide culturally sensitive communication
- Maintain professionalism, clinical judgment, and effective interdisciplinary communication at all times
