Job Opportunity: PICU Registered Nurse

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Days, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• On-call: Not required
• Patient Ratios: 1:1, 1:2, 1:3 (mixed ICU and Stepdown patients)
• Floating: Floating within scope to meet unit needs is expected

Unit Description

• 28-bed Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) caring for children ages 0-18
• Patient population includes medical and surgical diagnoses such as respiratory compromise, trauma, post-operative care, neurology/neurosurgery
• Advanced therapies provided: ECMO, CRRT, renal/peritoneal dialysis
• Pediatric palliative care available as needed
• Multidisciplinary team includes RNs, Patient Care Technicians, Respiratory Therapy, Pediatric Dietitians, and Pharmacists

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in South Carolina
• Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• PALS certification issued by American Heart Association
• Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with ECMO and CRRT

Additional Information

• Block scheduling may be accommodated with manager approval
• Local candidates within 60 miles considered on a case-by-case basis
• Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
• During hurricane season (June-November), all staff may be assigned to emergency response teams

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

• Proof of work eligibility and completed I-9 form
• Valid Driver’s License/State ID
• Social Security Card or equivalent documentation
• Background checks including criminal, sex offender registry, and employment verification for the past 7 years
• Education verification (diploma/transcripts) preferred
• NURSYS license verification required
• Drug screening (10-panel) within 90 days of start
• Annual physical exam attesting ability to meet job demands
• Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days of start, renewed annually
• Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B, TB test or chest X-ray, flu vaccine during flu season (or approved exemption)
• COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
• Competency exams and medication/pharmacology testing as applicable
• Clear, passport-style photo for badge required prior to start
• Completion of orientation modules prior to start

Notes for Candidates

• Certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start date
• All required documentation and modules must be completed before orientation; failure to comply may result in being sent home
• Radiation badge may be required for certain roles but not applicable for this PICU RN position
• References: Proof of 2 clinical references required
• Employment history verification for last 3 clinical employers required
