ER Registered Nurse Qualifications

Active Illinois RN License required
Minimum 1 year of recent Emergency Room RN experience
BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TNS (Trauma Nurse Specialist) certification

ER RN Responsibilities

Provide direct patient care in the Emergency Room, utilizing the nursing process and collaborating with interdisciplinary healthcare teams
Administer medications and treatments according to nursing standards, hospital policies, and Illinois state laws
Document patient care accurately and timely in accordance with ER protocols
Perform patient assessments, develop individualized care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
Educate patients and families on care plans and discharge instructions
Participate in unit-based performance improvement and professional development activities
Support other clinical units as needed and apply critical thinking to ensure patient safety
Engage in peer review and continuous nursing education
