Job Requirements (PCU/Telemetry RN)

• Experience: Minimum 1 year of recent RN experience in PCU/Stepdown/IMC/Telemetry (first-time travelers accepted)
• License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state requirements apply)
• Certifications Required: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
• Clinical Skills (preferred/expected): Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation/management; rapid response/code team activation; heparin protocols; IV insulin protocols; insulin drips (experience with titration preferred); blood product administration; central line/PICC care; oxygen delivery and non-invasive airway support (HFNC, BiPAP/CPAP); isolation precautions/PPE; pre/post cardiac cath and post-MI care; renal failure and pre/post hemodialysis management; chest tube management (Emerson/PleurEvac); tracheostomy care; wound care/wound vac; feeding tube care; PCA
• Vaccinations: Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccine not required
• Additional Compliance Notes: Fit testing required (must be able to meet fit-test requirements); drug screening required

Responsibilities (Progressive Care / Stepdown Nursing)

• Provide high-quality, patient-centered nursing care for acutely ill adult PCU/Telemetry patients with diverse medical and cardiac diagnoses
• Perform comprehensive assessments, develop and update care plans, administer medications and therapies, and deliver patient/family education
• Continuously monitor telemetry, recognize rhythm changes, and escalate concerns appropriately using rapid response/code resources
• Manage common PCU workflows including heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac/vasoactive drips, insulin drips (including DKA), and blood product administration
• Support patients across common PCU diagnoses such as CHF, chest pain, COPD, PE, conduction blocks, acute/chronic respiratory failure, stroke pre/post care, renal failure, AFib with RVR, MI/NSTEMI, and GI bleed
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners (PT, RT, pharmacy, radiology, phlebotomy, social services, transportation, unit secretary, and rapid response teams) to optimize outcomes
• Document accurately and timely in the EMR (Meditech)
