Med/Surg Telemetry RN Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry RN or Med-Surg RN experience required
  • License: Active South Carolina RN license or Compact RN license (must be in hand prior to start)
  • Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all required)
  • Clinical Skills: Cardiac telemetry monitoring, telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia recognition/management, peripheral IV/line care, oxygen therapy, isolation precautions/PPE
  • Preferred: Community hospital experience; Epic electronic health record experience
  • Vaccination: Flu vaccine required (medical/religious exemptions considered); COVID-19 vaccine not required
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted — ideal for travel nurse jobs and nurses new to travel assignments

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care to adult and geriatric patients on a busy Med/Surg Telemetry unit
  • Continuously monitor and interpret telemetry rhythms; promptly recognize, escalate, and manage dysrhythmias and cardiac events
  • Perform focused assessments, administer medications, manage oxygen therapy, and provide peripheral IV care and line maintenance
  • Document accurate, timely patient care in Epic to support continuity of care and regulatory compliance
  • Implement infection prevention practices including isolation precautions and PPE usage
  • Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams (respiratory therapy, physical therapy, pharmacy, radiology, social services, rapid response, and support staff) to coordinate comprehensive patient care
  • Float to other units within scope as needed to support facility staffing and patient needs
