Travel RN job in Washington, DC: Bring your Med/Surg Telemetry (MS/Tele) expertise to a general medicine/telemetry unit caring for adult and geriatric patients with complex, multisystem diagnoses who may require close observation. This 13-week travel nursing contract is located in Washington, DC 20007—near the walkable Georgetown area known for its historic streets, great dining and shopping, and easy access to the Potomac waterfront paths and nearby parks. You’ll also be a quick ride from DC’s iconic museums and monuments for easy exploring on your days off.

- Medication System: Pyxis
- Floating: Float to units of equivalent or lower acuity as needed
Travel RN Requirements (Med/Surg Telemetry)
- Experience: 2+ years of recent acute-care Med/Surg Telemetry RN experience
- Travel Experience: At least 1 prior travel nursing assignment required
- License: Active Washington, DC RN license required by start date (pending DC license accepted with proof at submission; must be in hand prior to start)
- Certifications: BLS (AHA)
- EKG Competency: Must pass the Relias EKG Rhythm Interpretation Exam (minimum 80% overall and 100% on lethal rhythms)
- Clinical Skills: Telemetry monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, IV therapy (PICC/peripheral line management), IV starts, feeding tube care/management, isolation precautions/PPE
- Vaccination Requirement: Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Preferred: Charge nurse experience
Key Responsibilities (Med/Surg Telemetry RN)
- Deliver safe, evidence-based Med/Surg Telemetry nursing care for adult and geriatric patients with complex medical conditions in an acute-care hospital setting.
- Monitor telemetry and interpret cardiac rhythms; identify dysrhythmias and escalate changes in patient condition using rapid response/code team resources as appropriate.
- Perform and manage IV therapy, including PICC/peripheral line care and IV starts; support additional therapies per unit standards.
- Provide feeding tube care/management and patient/family education tailored to diagnosis, safety, and discharge planning needs.
- Document assessments, interventions, and outcomes accurately and timely in Cerner EMR.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners (e.g., IV team, respiratory, PT, pharmacy, radiology, social services) to coordinate comprehensive patient care.
- Float to comparable or lower-acuity units as staffing needs require while maintaining patient safety, quality, and scope of practice.
