- Patient Ratios: 1:6–7 depending on acuity and overflow needs
- Unit Size: 48 beds; average daily census ~32
- Facility Type: Large, Level I Trauma Center in Memphis
- Interdisciplinary Support: Physical Therapy, Respiratory Services, Interpretation Services, Phlebotomy, Radiology, Social Services, Rapid Response Teams, Pharmacy, Transportation
- Charting/EMR: Cerner experience preferred
Registered Nurse (RN) Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years of recent acute care RN experience required (cardiac stepdown/telemetry strongly preferred)
- Travel Experience: At least one completed prior travel assignment required (first-time travelers not accepted)
- Setting: Large hospital experience required
- Trauma: Level I trauma experience required
- License: Active RN license (state or compact/NLC-compliant)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
- Clinical Skills: Telemetry monitoring, IV starts, strong cardiac/respiratory assessment, escalation and rapid response activation
- Vaccination: Flu vaccine required (no exemptions)
- Local Radius: Candidates must live at least 100 miles from the facility
Cardiac Stepdown RN Responsibilities
- Provide safe, evidence-based nursing care for cardiac stepdown/telemetry patients requiring continuous monitoring and frequent reassessment.
- Interpret telemetry rhythms, identify early signs of deterioration, and escalate appropriately using rapid response resources.
- Administer medications and manage IV therapies per protocol; monitor patient response and communicate changes promptly to the care team.
- Support patient flow and safe care delivery when the unit receives Med-Surg overflow, maintaining prioritization and strong clinical judgment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary partners to coordinate diagnostics, respiratory support, mobility, and discharge planning.
- Document accurately and efficiently in the EMR (Cerner preferred) and contribute to quality, compliance, and patient safety initiatives.
- Float to like units as needed to support safe staffing and continuity of care.
