Job Description

• Unit Information:

  • Medical Oncology with progressive care beds/pediatric patients.
  • High acuity of PCU and a small amount of med-surg.

• Schedule:

  • No set schedule or weekends; flexibility required.
  • Maximum of 7 straight days off.
  • 14-week contract required if taking 7 days off.

• Patient Diagnoses:

  • Solid Tumor
  • Orthopedic Oncology
  • Thoracic Oncology

• Special Procedures/Unit Details:

  • 36 bed Oncology Telemetry unit with over 24 beds dedicated to PCU level of care.
  • Pediatric patients are rare and typically cared for by permanent staff.

Requirements

• Experience:

  • 2 years of oncology experience preferred, but not required.
  • High acuity PCU patient experience required.

• Certifications:

  • Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS)
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • NIH Stroke Certification

• Skills Required:

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Use of rapid response teams
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • Starting IVs
  • Tracheostomy management

• Skills Preferred:

  • Management of dysrhythmias
  • Chemotherapy administration
  • Wound care

Orientation and Training

• First week: Monday to Friday dayshift orientation.
• Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor.

Additional Information

• Required to float within units of equivalent or lower level of acuity.
• Staffing ratios aim for 1:4-5 but may vary based on unit needs. Weekend shifts are variable.
