Registered Nurse (RN) – Critical Care Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Critical Care (High Acuity Unit)
- Number of Beds: 8
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend and to fill holes
- Holiday Requirements: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
- Call or Standby: Not currently required but may change
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
Patient Population & Care
- Common diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
- Care includes: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy patients, sedated and ventilated patients
- Responsibilities: Titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as Precedex, Propofol, Fentanyl, Versed, Lasix, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Levophed, Dopamine, Cardizem, and other ICU-level drips
Staffing & Support
- Charge nurse: No charge nurse on each shift; House Supervisor available 24/7
- Respiratory Therapist: Available in-house 24/7
- Hospitalist/Intensivist: In-house during day shift only; tele-health MD available after hours
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: None; nurses provide all primary care in ICU
- Telemetry: All beds have Phillips telemetry monitors; telemetry tech monitors centrally
- Respiratory equipment: RNs troubleshoot vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.
Orientation & Training
- Orientation: 12 non-billable classroom hours plus 2 shifts on unit with preceptor
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Required Qualifications
- Active Illinois RN license or confirmation that application process has been initiated
- Must comply with drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen
- Experience caring for high acuity ICU patients with skills in ventilator management, titrating drips, and complex line care
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- No prior travel experience explicitly required for this position
This position is ideal for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with high acuity patients and complex ICU care.
