Job Opportunity: CVICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Largo, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Start Date: April 20, 2026
Shift: Days (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 07:30 - 20:00)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Unit & Patient Details
- Unit: Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
- Average Daily Census: 6 patients
- Beds: 8
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Patient Age Range: Adults to Geriatrics
- Common Diagnoses:
- Cardiac Surgery (CABG, valve)
- Coronary Artery Disease (STEMI, NSTEMI, AFIB with RVR, cardiogenic shock)
- Vascular procedures (peripheral bypasses, EVAR)
- Thoracic procedures (VATS)
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maryland
- CVICU experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Minimum 2 years of open heart experience
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) certification
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale) certification
- Tech Cert Verification - National
- State License 1 Verification
- NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
Job Requirements & Expectations
- Floating: Required as needed to Intermediate Care Unit (IMC) and other units within scope
- On-call: Not required
- Scrub color: Navy preferred
- Holidays and weekends as scheduled (every other weekend required)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks including 7-year criminal history, education verification, and various federal/state screenings
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Negative 9-panel drug screen within 30 days prior to start (instant tests not accepted)
- Immunizations and titers required:
- TB testing (QGOLD, TSPOT, or 2-step PPD) with annual updates
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (if applicable)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted)
- Varicella (positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters)
- Seasonal Flu vaccine or approved exemption (2025-26 season)
- Fit test for respirator masks within 1 year of start
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
- Employment history verification for previous 5 years
- Photo for badge (passport style with white/beige background)
- Signed confidentiality agreement and job description acknowledgment prior to start
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete all required documentation and compliance steps prior to start date
- Portfolio Epic training test-out available for eligible candidates
- Floating assignments may include sister facilities within scope of practice
