Job Description

• Unit: 17 James Medical Oncology
• Shift: Day/Night Rotating or Nights
• Experience: Oncology experience preferred but not required
• Staffing Ratios: Goal is 1:4, but can be 1:5
• Weekends: Variable based on unit needs
• Scheduling: No set/blocked scheduling; self-schedule requests are encouraged
• Orientation:

  • First week: Monday - Friday dayshift
  • Second week: 36 hours of on-unit orientation with a preceptor

Experience Requirements

• Minimum Experience: 2 years

Patient Care

• Age Group: Adults and Geriatrics
• Common Diagnoses:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Lung Cancer
  • Prostate Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer
  • Colon Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Antineoplastic chemotherapy encounters

Unit Details

• Cares for all solid tumor cancers throughout their journey, from diagnosis to end-of-life care
• Focus on infection prevention protocols and patient falls
• Cares for patients with medical-surgical issues

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Telemetry Interpretation and Monitoring

Preferred Certifications

• ONS Chemo

Additional Information

• Computerized Charting: EPIC
• Floating: Required to other MedSurg Oncology units
• Previous Travel Experience: Preferred

Health and Safety Requirements

• Vaccinations:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Negative TB or Chest X-Ray
  • Flu vaccine or declination during flu season
  • Hepatitis B Titer or 3-Vaccine Series
  • Varicella Vaccines or Positive Titer
• Drug Testing: Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen required within 3 months of start
• Background Check: 7-Year Criminal Background Check within 1 year of start

References

• 2 professional references required, including at least one from a manager or director.

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Ohio
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 2 years oncology nursing experience
• Oncology experience within the last year
