Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Registered Nurse)

Location: New Brunswick, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM
  • No call, no floating required
  • Unit size: Level 4, 24 beds
  • Required experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Registered Nurse)
  • Travel pairs not accepted
  • Return to office (RTO) documentation required at time of submission; manager requests no more than 7 days maximum

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Must be completed through AHA/AAP
  • AWOHNN Intermediate, Advanced, or C-EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Required for Labor and Delivery; can obtain C-EFM prior to start if not currently certified
  • Adult IV Therapy Course (CNJNE) – Required for all RNs who have worked in New Jersey; must pass with 80% or higher
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Pass/Fail Testing (Medication Exam, IV Challenge Exam if no IV Certification)
  • State RN License (copy required) with Primary Source Verification (NURSYS)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (if applicable)

Required Exams and Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (2 attempts allowed; not required for Labor and Delivery)
  • IV Therapy/Infusion Exam (required for all RNs except at this facility)
  • IV Push Medications Competency Exam (not required at this facility)

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • Criminal background check covering all locations lived/worked in the last 7 years, including SSN trace and international searches if applicable
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG searches within 30 days of start
  • Physical exam or fit-to-work statement from a physician (no annual update required)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 1 year of start (marijuana not required) and on-site drug screen at assignment start
  • Immunizations and health documents:
    • Tdap vaccine
    • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or Tspot within 3 months) or chest x-ray if indicated
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer
    • Hepatitis C – Negative or non-reactive antibody required
    • Flu vaccination/documentation for current flu season or approved medical/religious exemption

Additional Requirements

  • 3 professional references required (at least one supervisor-level)
  • Employment application must show a minimum of 2 years acute care experience
  • Work history verification required for at least 1 year prior to start date (New Jersey candidates)
  • Skills checklist required
  • Photo for badge: shoulders up, plain solid background, no driver’s license or other photo types
  • Completion of mandatory hospital orientation and training modules (~8 hours) prior to assignment
  • Completion of IV certification modules if no prior certification, including successful IV stick sign-offs during orientation

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in New Jersey
  • Labor and Delivery experience with a minimum of 2 years, including experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification
  • IV Certification
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing (including EKG and Medication exams)
  • Copy of Professional State License
  • State License Verification
  • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
  • Associate of Science in Nursing or Associate Degree in Nursing

Notes

  • Candidates without current IV certification must complete the IV course or pass the IV Challenge Exam with 80% or higher and demonstrate competency with IV sticks before unit orientation completion.
  • Failure to pass required exams after two attempts may result in cancellation of the assignment.
  • COVID-19 booster attestation required if not eligible for vaccination prior to contract start.
