Cardiovascular Intensive Care Nurse (CVICU RN)
Location: Great Falls, Montana
Facility: Great Falls Clinic Medical Center
Employment Type: Contract (13 weeks)
Position Overview
- Provide care to hemodynamically stable or predictably unstable patients in a cardiac medical surgical unit.
- Support patients physically, emotionally, spiritually, and culturally.
- Patient populations include pediatrics, pre/post PCI care, pacemaker, revascularization, carotid endarterectomy, thoracotomy, CHF, COPD, DKA, renal failure, DVT, PE, sepsis, and various surgical cases.
- Care for patients with advanced medical equipment such as central lines, chest tubes, nasogastric tubes, continuous bladder irrigation, arterial lines, multiple IVs, and short-term ventilation support.
- Ability to assess and implement policies with minimal supervision.
- Act as a clinical leader and assist with precepting staff.
- Provide direct patient care from admission to discharge, including discharge planning.
Facility Information
- Hospital with 36 licensed inpatient beds and 10 ICU beds.
- Expanding cardiac services with higher acuity patients requiring critical care-trained nurses.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Recent critical care experience preferred, especially CVICU and open heart recovery.
Knowledge and Skills
- Advanced nursing principles and procedures.
- Critical care, CVICU, and open heart experience preferred.
- Proficient with basic office equipment and multiple IV pumps.
- Skilled in operating advanced medical equipment including arterial lines, invasive lines, chest tubes, ventilatory support (noninvasive and invasive), cardiac telemetry, and EKG interpretation.
Licensure and Certifications
- Current Montana RN licensure.
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required.
Reporting and Collaboration
- Receives direction from providers, charge nurse, supervisor, and Director of Nursing.
- Provides direction to LPNs, CNAs, housekeeping, and dietary staff.
- Works cooperatively with providers, healthcare professionals, and allied health staff.
