Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical / Telemetry

Location: Newburgh, Indiana
Facility: Deaconess Gateway Hospital (Deaconess Health System)
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour nights (6:30 PM – 7:00 AM)
Start Date: June 16 (Bi-weekly orientation)

Unit & Patient Population

• Unit: Cardiac Renal Unit, 34 beds
• Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:6-7 (Charge Nurse takes a patient assignment)
• Patient Types:

  • Post cardiac procedures (heart cath, ablation, pacemaker)
  • A-fib RVR, ESRD, CHF, sepsis
  • Tracheostomies, nephrostomy tubes, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI), renal biopsy
  • Behavioral health/detox patients

Job Requirements & Responsibilities

• Experience:

  • Minimum 2 years strong cardiac/telemetry experience
  • At least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Trauma Level II experience preferred
• Certifications Required:

  • Current active compact nursing license
  • AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS)
• Skills:

  • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
  • Recovery care for heart caths (femoral/TR bands)
  • PIV insertion, chest tube and indwelling drain management
  • Drip management (cardiac meds like Cardizem, amiodarone; others like heparin, lasix, protonix)
  • CBI and detox/CIWA protocol experience
  • Central line care
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills required
• Charting: Recent EPIC experience required (checkoff class will be provided)

Float & Scheduling

• Float within skillset primarily to:

  • Deaconess Midtown campus (8 miles away)
  • Potentially Deaconess Henderson (KY, 11 miles away)
• 2-hour notice given for cross-campus float
• Mid-shift float within same campus common; cross-campus mid-shift float possible but unlikely
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: 3 weekends every 6 weeks; every other holiday
• On Call/Call Back: Not required

Additional Information

• No local candidates within 40-mile radius allowed
• Guaranteed 36 hours per week (except during holidays when unit may be closed)
• Scrub color: Navy blue (no competing health system or agency logos allowed)
• Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires
• Strong leadership team and supportive unit culture
• COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change)
• Attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination
