Job Overview

Unit Details

• Unit Size: 48 beds
• Staffing Ratios:

  • RN to Patient: 1:4
  • Nursing Assistant to Patient: 1:8 (can increase to 1:5 or 1:6 if needed)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling
• Shifts: 12N, 48 hours GWW every other week
• Holidays & Weekends: 3 out of 4 holidays, 6 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule

Patient Population

• Primarily adult patients with:

  • Hematologic or oncologic concerns
  • Immunocompromised conditions
  • Radiation complications
  • Cardiac arrhythmia
  • Complex fluid and medication management
  • Single and/or multi-system complications

Required Skills & Responsibilities

• Strong oncology background and phlebotomy skills
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips (EKG monitoring)
• Administer chemotherapy and continuous infusion medication management
• Pain management
• Wound vac dressing changes and wound drains care
• Care for central lines, tracheotomy patients, chest tubes
• IV start skills, peripheral lab draws, arterial blood draws
• Manage various intravenous drips including cardiac, insulin, heparin
• Cardiac rhythm analysis performed by nursing staff (no monitor techs)

Technology & Tools

• EPIC electronic health record system
• Must pass EKG and Pharmacology exams during compliance/prestart process

Additional Notes

• Use of ancillary staff is available
• All time off must be negotiated prior to confirmation
• Work radius: within 80 miles of the facility

This position is ideal for experienced telemetry nurses with oncology and phlebotomy skills who are comfortable managing complex patients and cardiac monitoring independently.
