Job Summary
Seeking a Physician Assistant with critical care experience to provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting. The role involves clinical care, consultation, mentoring, education, and research within a 24/7/365 coverage model.
Key Details
Shift Requirements:
- Variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends
- Current shifts:
- 10-hour evenings (1:00 PM – 11:00 PM)
- 12-hour days/nights (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
- Weekend, night, and holiday work shared equally
- Self-scheduling in 4-week blocks with a minimum of 6 shifts per block
- May float between two campuses
On Call:
- In-house night call responsibilities shared among team members who have completed night orientation
Unit Information:
- Dallas PICU: 4-6 patients during the day; night call covers all assigned patients and new admissions
- Plano PICU: 6-8 patients during the day; night call covers all assigned patients and new admissions
Required Licenses and Certifications
- Texas PA License
- PAC-PA certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – candidates without NRP will be considered but must obtain it
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: Critical care experience is mandatory (hard stop)
- Acceptable comparable critical care backgrounds include CICU, CVICU, NICU, or ER
- Experience with:
- Arterial line placement
- Central venous line placement
- Chest tube placement
- Endotracheal intubation
- Lumbar puncture
- PICC placement
Additional Information
- Orientation: No orientation offered on the last Mondays of the month
- Hours not guaranteed during orientation week or when the unit is closed
- Start Date: ASAP (credentialing timeframe approximately 90 days)
