Job Opportunity: Physician Assistant – Pediatric Medicine (Travel)
Location: Dallas, Texas
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: Permanent Placement
Position Overview
Seeking a Physician Assistant with Pediatric Medicine specialty to provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting. The role involves working in a 24/7/365 coverage model with variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.
Work Schedule & Location
- Self-scheduling in 4-week blocks with a minimum of 6 shifts per block
- Shifts include:
- 10-hour evenings (1:00 PM – 11:00 PM) at Dallas campus
- 12-hour days/nights (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) at Dallas & Plano campuses
- Float between Dallas and Plano campuses as needed
- Weekend, night, and holiday work shared equally among team members
- In-house night call responsibilities shared among team members who have completed night orientation
Required Licenses & Certifications
- Texas PA License
- PAC-PA certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – candidates without NRP may be considered but must obtain it
Experience Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: Critical care experience is mandatory (hard stop)
- Acceptable comparable skillsets include experience in:
- CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit)
- CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)
- NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
- ER (Emergency Room)
- Experience with procedures such as:
- Arterial line placement
- Central venous line placement
- Chest tube placement
- Endotracheal intubation
- Lumbar puncture
- PICC placement
- Education: Acute Care Pediatric NP/PA or Critical Care Pediatric NP/PA
Unit Information
- Dallas PICU: 4-6 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions
- Plano PICU: 6-8 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions
Additional Notes
- Orientation: No orientation offered on the last Mondays of the month
- Hours not guaranteed during orientation week or when the unit is closed
- Duties include clinician provider, consultant/mentor, educator, and researcher roles
