Position Overview

Seeking a Physician Assistant with Pediatric Medicine specialty to provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients in a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) setting. The role involves working in a 24/7/365 coverage model with variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends.

Work Schedule & Location

• Self-scheduling in 4-week blocks with a minimum of 6 shifts per block
• Shifts include:

  • 10-hour evenings (1:00 PM – 11:00 PM) at Dallas campus
  • 12-hour days/nights (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) at Dallas & Plano campuses
• Float between Dallas and Plano campuses as needed
• Weekend, night, and holiday work shared equally among team members
• In-house night call responsibilities shared among team members who have completed night orientation

Required Licenses & Certifications

• Texas PA License
• PAC-PA certification
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – candidates without NRP may be considered but must obtain it

Experience Requirements

• Minimum Specialty Experience: Critical care experience is mandatory (hard stop)
• Acceptable comparable skillsets include experience in:

  • CICU (Cardiac Intensive Care Unit)
  • CVICU (Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit)
  • NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)
  • ER (Emergency Room)
• Experience with procedures such as:

  • Arterial line placement
  • Central venous line placement
  • Chest tube placement
  • Endotracheal intubation
  • Lumbar puncture
  • PICC placement
• Education: Acute Care Pediatric NP/PA or Critical Care Pediatric NP/PA

Unit Information

• Dallas PICU: 4-6 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions
• Plano PICU: 6-8 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions

Additional Notes

• Orientation: No orientation offered on the last Mondays of the month
• Hours not guaranteed during orientation week or when the unit is closed
• Duties include clinician provider, consultant/mentor, educator, and researcher roles
