Job Opportunity: Physician Assistant – Pediatric Medicine (Travel)

Location: Dallas, Texas
Employment Type: Travel (Permanent Placement)
Contract Length: Permanent placement (no fixed end date)


Job Summary

Provide medical care for critically ill pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a broad spectrum of single and multi-organ illnesses. The role includes responsibilities as a clinician provider, consultant/mentor, educator, and researcher.


Work Schedule & Location

  • Variable shifts including days, evenings, nights, and weekends as part of a 24/7/365 coverage model
  • Current shifts:
    • 10-hour evenings (1:00 PM – 11:00 PM) – Dallas campus
    • 12-hour days/nights (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM) – Dallas & Plano campuses
  • Weekend, night, and holiday work shared equally among team members
  • Float between Dallas and Plano campuses may be required
  • On-call/night call responsibilities shared among team members who have completed night orientation

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • Texas NP License
  • CPNP-AC (Certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Acute Care)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – candidates without NRP will need to obtain it

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum Specialty Experience: Critical care experience is mandatory (hard stop)
  • Acceptable comparable critical care experience includes CICU, CVICU, NICU, or ER
  • Experience with the following procedures is required:
    • Arterial line placement
    • Central venous line placement
    • Chest tube placement
    • Endotracheal intubation
    • Lumbar puncture
    • PICC placement

Unit Information

  • Dallas PICU: 4-6 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions
  • Plano PICU: 6-8 patients during the day; night call covers all patients assigned at checkout plus new admissions

Additional Notes

  • Guaranteed minimum of 6 shifts per 4-week block with self-scheduling
  • Orientation period may have variable hours and no orientation on the last Monday of the month
  • Credentialing timeframe averages 90 days
