MRI Technologist - Radiology / Cardiology

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: Ohio State University Hospital
Hospital System: Outside In
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Shift Details

  • Block Schedule
  • Days: Sunday - Tuesday
  • Hours: 7:00 PM - 7:30 AM (overnight shift)
  • Weekend night shifts focused on oncology imaging

Job Overview

Seeking a skilled MRI Technologist with expertise in neuro, abdominal, and musculoskeletal imaging. The role supports both inpatient and outpatient imaging, with a focus on oncology cases.


Department Information

  • Average Daily Census: 35–40 cases/day
  • Patient Population: Adolescents, Adults, Geriatrics
  • Electronic Documentation System: EPIC

Required Experience & Certifications

  • Minimum 2 years of MRI experience
  • ARRT certification
  • BLS certification
  • Valid Ohio State License

Required Skills

  • Experience in Adult ICU, Adult Outpatient, and Pediatric Acute Care settings
  • Proficiency in imaging:
    • Abdominal
    • Female & Male Pelvis
    • Chest
    • Brain
    • Face/Neck
    • Hip/Bony Pelvis
    • Knee
    • Shoulder
  • Familiarity with PACS and Siemens MRI equipment

Special Imaging Procedures

  • Fusion (non-brain)
  • Gradient Echo Imaging
  • Image Post-Processing (ADC mapping, subtraction)
  • Maximum Intensity Projection (MIP)
  • Multiplanar Reconstruction (MPR)
  • Perfusion
  • Spectroscopy
  • Spin Echo Images
  • Surface Coils
  • T1 & T2 Weighted Imaging
  • Spine Imaging: Cervical, Lumbar, Thoracic

Required Certifications & Compliance

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ER and related units
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - Required for Labor & Delivery, Post-Partum, OB
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - Facility-specific expiration rules
  • Tech Certification Verification - National certification required within 30 days of start
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement - Annual requirement
  • State License Verification - Within 30 days of start
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for ER and Critical Care RNs
  • Unit-Specific Competency Exams including Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam for RNs

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Proof of fingerprinting completion (BCI/FBI) required for all candidates
  • Background Acknowledgement form for subcontractors
  • Dress Code and Hand Hygiene Policy acknowledgment
  • Confidential Fraud Waste Abuse and Compliance Reporting Mechanism Form
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate (annual update required)
  • Ethics and Compliance Policies acknowledgment (annual for new contracts)

Health Requirements

  • Physical Exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • TB Questionnaire in lieu of annual TB test renewal
  • MMR Vaccines or Positive Titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella
  • Hepatitis B Titer or 3-Vaccine Series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella Vaccines or Positive Titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
  • Negative 10 Panel Drug Screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, opiates, etc.)
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or Declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID-19 Vaccine not required but strongly recommended

Background and Screening

  • 7-Year Criminal Background Check within 1 year of start (includes SS Trace, counties lived/worked, nationwide, sex offender, MVR if applicable)
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
  • 2 Professional References required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
  • Employment Application required (including education for nursing candidates)
  • Skills Checklist required
  • Education Accreditation Confirmation for nursing candidates
  • Transcript/Diploma required for Respiratory Therapists
  • Ohio BCI & FBI Fingerprinting required within 1 year of start, with specific code usage and strict timing rules

This position is ideal for MRI Technologists with strong clinical skills in neuro, abdominal, and musculoskeletal imaging, who are comfortable working overnight weekend shifts in a high-volume oncology-focused hospital setting. Compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
