Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Facility: James Cancer Hospital (Outside In Hospital System)

Job Description
- Unit: BMT (14 & 15W James) - Oncology
- CHEMO CERTIFICATION REQUIRED
- Mixed acuity PCU and Medical-Surgical (MS) unit
- Schedule: No set schedule or block schedule; facility determines schedule which may include working every weekend. Flexibility required. Maximum 1-2 days Requested Time Off (RTO).
- Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts; assignments reviewed every 4 weeks but not guaranteed.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year in Medical-Surgical and oncology required.

- Acute Myeloid Leukemia (Adult)
- Amyloidosis
- Aplastic Anemia
- Chronic Leukemia
- Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL)
- Chronic Myeloid (Myelogenous) Leukemia
- Hodgkin's Lymphoma
- Multiple Myeloma
- Myelodysplastic Syndrome
- Myeloproliferative Disorders
- Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma
Special Procedures / Unit Details
- Autologous Transplants (patient’s own stem cells)
- Syngeneic Transplants (stem cells from identical twin)
- Allogeneic Transplants (stem cells from sibling, parent, or unrelated donor)
- CAR-T Therapy
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) Chemotherapy Certification
- Oncology Certified (preferred)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) (preferred)
Required Skills
- Medical-Surgical / Telemetry (MS/Tele) experience
- Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care/management
- PICC line management
- Nasal cannula oxygen administration
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
Licensure & Background
- Valid nursing license (Ohio or compact license with residency declaration if out-of-state)
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required (code 3701.881) with results prior to start
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprints pending
Health & Immunizations
- Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire required
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemption requires documentation
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
- COVID-19 vaccine not required but recommended
Competency Exams
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam within 1 year of start and annually thereafter
Other Required Documents
- Employment application including education verification
- Skills checklist
- Education accreditation confirmation (accredited nursing program)
- Professional references: 2 required, at least 1 from a manager or formal leadership
- Annual acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate (updated annually)
Additional Notes
- Facility requires flexibility in scheduling including weekends and rotating shifts.
- Candidates must be prepared for mixed acuity oncology care including complex transplant procedures.
- Strict compliance with facility-specific credentialing, health, and background requirements is mandatory.
- Orientation and remediation processes are in place for competency exams, including EKG remediation if needed.
This position is ideal for experienced oncology RNs with chemotherapy certification and strong telemetry/medical-surgical skills seeking a travel contract in a specialized cancer hospital setting.
