Job Opportunity: Critical Care Nurse (ICU) - Peoria, Illinois
Unit Information
- Specialty: High Acuity Unit (Critical Care)

- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory failure, post-surgical care, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
Skills and Experience Required
- PEG tube care and feedings
- Care and management of CVC/PICC/Midline lines
- Tracheostomy patient care
- Caring for sedated and ventilated patients
- Titrating vasopressors, sedation, and pain control drips
- RNs are required to titrate drips

- Cardizem
(Most ICU-level drips applicable)
Staffing and Support
- House Supervisor available 24/7
- No nurse aides or patient care techs; nurses provide primary care
- Hospitalist/Intensivist coverage on dayshift only; tele-health MD available after hours
- Respiratory Therapist (RT) available in-house 24/7
- RNs troubleshoot ventilators, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow, etc.
- Telemetry: 8 ICU beds with Phillips hard-wired telemetry monitors; monitored by telemetry tech in ICU
Scheduling and Work Environment
- Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill shift holes
- Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill shift holes
- Call/Standby: Not currently required but may change
- Floating: ICU RNs may float to Medical-Surgical unit
- Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed in any color
Orientation
- 12 non-billable orientation hours (classroom and unit-based)
- 2 shifts on unit with preceptor (12-hour night shifts)
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Drug-free campus: negative drug screen required for all panels
- Orientation hours do not count toward guaranteed hours
- Call-off policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
