Cardiology IR Contract Position Overview
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Facility Type: Level III Trauma Center, Level III NICU, Magnet Designation, Comprehensive Stroke Center
Beds: 933

Employment Details
- Type: Contractor
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift Flexibility: Manager open to altering shift times (e.g., four 10-hour shifts, two 8-hour and two 12-hour shifts)
- Orientation: 1-2 weeks with preceptor, followed by competency check-off
- Floating: No
Department & Patient Information
- Department: Interventional Radiology (IR)
- Rooms: 5
- Patient Types: Adults only (no pediatrics)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 40-50 patients per day
- Coverage: Department staffed 24/7
Procedures & Experience Required
- Must be able to scrub and circulate basic, intermediate, and advanced IR procedures
- Experience with GE and Siemens imaging equipment preferred
- Neuro IR experience required for RNs; RTs require manager approval if lacking Neuro IR experience
- General IR procedures include:
- Kyphoplasty/vertebroplasty (not at night)
- Central lines, PICCs, ports
- Fistulograms, IVC filters
- Nephrostomy tubes, nephroureteral stents
- Peripheral leg cases, coil embolization
- Thoracentesis/paracentesis
- CT-guided procedures (biopsies, drains, cryoablation; not at night)
- AAA intervention experience preferred
- Neuro IR procedures include:
- Stroke interventions, embolization
- DSA, WADA test, spinal angiography (not at night)
Licensure & Certifications
- RN: BLS, ACLS
- RT(R): ARRT, BLS, Wisconsin License
Skills & Responsibilities
- RN:
- Experience with IR patient types and procedures
- Administer sedation unless anesthesia involved
- Monitor and chart patient status
- RT(R):
- Scrub and pan simultaneously during procedures
- Experience with general IR cases required
- Charging/coding experience preferred but not required
Unit Support
- Two coordinators (Receptionist/HUC)
- Two lead techs
- Two techs per exam room (sometimes three for complex cases)
- Tech specialists available
- Respiratory therapy available 24/7
- Hospitalist coverage 24/7
- CNA/Transporter available 24/7 (may assist with patient transport)
Technology & Equipment
- EMR: EPIC (experience preferred for RNs)
- IV Pumps: Alaris
- Medication Dispensing: Pyxis
- PACS: Change Healthcare
- Imaging Equipment: Siemens and GE (experience preferred)
- Injector: MedRad
- Additional Equipment (experience not required): IVUS, GE Ultrasound, Laser, Bovie (for port removals), Angiojet
Scheduling & Call
- Weekend Rotation: Call
- RT(R) Call:
- Weekday: 1 call shift/week (Mon-Thurs), end of shift (EOS) until 7:00 AM next day
- Weekend: Once every 5th weekend, EOS Friday until Monday 7:00 AM
- RN Call:
- Weekday: 1 call shift/week (Mon-Thurs), EOS until 7:00 AM next day
- Weekend: Once every 5th or 6th weekend, EOS Friday until Monday 7:00 AM
- Call Details:
- Neuro call only if Neuro IR experience; otherwise general IR call
- Travelers with both Neuro and General IR experience may be asked to take both calls
- Response time: 30 minutes
- No call required for overnight shifts
- Holiday Expectations: No holidays currently required; may change to call only
