Job Opportunity: Med Surg Nurse (LTAC) - Peoria, Illinois

Unit Information

• Unit: MedSurg (Long-Term Acute Care)
• Number of Beds: 10
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
• Patient Types: Respiratory failure, post-surgical, wound care, IV antibiotics, post-CVA, post-trauma, cardiac patients
• Common Skills Required: PEG tube care/feedings, CVC/PICC/Midline care, tracheostomy care
• RN Responsibilities: Titrate drips (e.g., Heparin)
• Charge Nurse: House Supervisor available 24/7 (does not take patient assignment)
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:10

Respiratory Therapy & Monitoring

• RT Equipment: Vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow; RNs troubleshoot but RT manages equipment
• Telemetry: Tele/monitor techs present; RNs do not read their own strips; monitored by techs in ICU

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend and to fill holes
• Holiday Requirement: Holiday rotation and to fill holes
• Call/Standby: None currently, but subject to change
• Orientation: 12 non-billable hours classroom orientation plus 2 unit shifts with preceptor (3-12 hour shifts, including nights and rotating weekends/holidays)

Certifications & Licenses

• Required: BLS (AHA)
• Preferred: ACLS (not required)
• Licensing: Active Illinois license or proof of application required

Additional Notes

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Float Requirements: Med Surg nurses may float to ICU and Acute Rehab occasionally
• Dress Code: Scrubs only; OSF-approved t-shirts allowed (any color)
• Drug Policy: Drug-free campus; negative drug screen required
• Call Off Policy: Equivalent of 12 hours off every 13 weeks with no penalty or pay requirement
• Local Placement: Accepts clinicians within 50-mile radius

This position is suitable for experienced Med Surg nurses comfortable with complex patients requiring advanced care such as tracheostomy and IV therapies, and who are flexible with floating and rotating shifts.
