Job Opportunity: PET Technologist (Radiology / Cardiology)

Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Shift: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM (5 days x 8 hours)
  • Weekend Requirement: PET/CT scans performed twice a month on Saturdays; may require working 1 or 2 Saturdays depending on unit needs
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: No floating between service lines or sister facilities
  • Radiation Badge: Must be supplied by the agency (facility does NOT provide radiation badges)

Experience & Certification Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Preferred experience in Level 1 and II trauma centers
  • Equipment experience required: Siemens scanner
  • Must have all three of the following:
    1. Two national certifications (NMTCB and ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine, Radiology, or Computed Tomography
    2. South Carolina SCRQSA state license in Nuclear Medicine and Radiology or Computed Tomography
    3. BLS certification

  • Teaching hospital with Magnet status and Level 1 Trauma center
  • Total staffed beds: 865
  • Charting system: Epic
  • Scrub color: Teal top / Black pants
  • Parking: $20 one-time fee for nights and weekends only

Important Notes

  • Hurricane Season: June through November; employees and contractors may be assigned to emergency response teams during this time. Travelers should avoid confirming new or extended assignments during peak months (August and September) if this is a concern.
  • Facility allows calling off 1 shift per 2 weeks
  • Local candidates considered on a case-by-case basis within a 60-mile radius

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Proof of work eligibility (I-9 attestation and completed form)
  • Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
  • Copy of Social Security Card or SSN verification
  • Background checks including SSN trace, criminal, sex offender registry, FACIS, and state-specific searches
  • Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
  • Employment application with complete work history including PTO, contract assignments, and no unaccounted gaps
  • Proof of 2 clinical references
  • Last 3 clinical employers verified (or as many as applicable)
  • Radiation badge process must be initiated prior to start; candidates cannot begin work without it

Certifications Required

  • BLS (AHA or ARC) – required for all clinical staff
  • ACLS (AHA only) – required for certain units; confirm with specific job description
  • Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP, TNCC, NIH Stroke, CHEMO) depending on unit
  • State license primary source verification required; SC RN license or walk-through process for temporary licensure available
  • National certification verification for allied health professionals
  • IV Therapy certification for select LPNs if applicable

Competency Exams & Testing

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Color Blind Testing required prior to start
  • Competency exams required; pediatric OR candidates may have specific requirements

Health & Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Fit test for N95 mask within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap within 10 years or declination form
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella titers or vaccination/booster documentation
    • Hepatitis B titer, vaccine series, or declination
  • Drug screening: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start
  • COVID-19 vaccinations highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug-April)

Facility Specific Requirements

  • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
  • Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
  • Passport-style badge photo required before start
  • Sterile Processing Techs have additional physical and lab requirements (CMP, CBC)
  • Respiratory safety clearance and fit testing mandatory; PAPR not provided by facility

This position offers a structured schedule with limited weekend work, requires specific certifications and licensure, and involves working in a high-acuity teaching hospital environment with advanced imaging equipment. Compliance with health, safety, and credentialing requirements is strictly enforced.
