Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Washington, District of Columbia

Position Details
- Role: Ventricular Assist Device Coordinator - ICU RN
- Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM (5x8 day shift)
- Weeknight call: 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM (remote unless onsite medically necessary)
- Weekend call: Friday 5:00 PM through Monday 7:00 AM (remote unless onsite medically necessary)
- Start Date: November 24
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Licenses and Certifications
- DC Registered Nurse (RN) License (pending license accepted at submission; must have license before start)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA or ARC certified
- Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) certification required
- Preferred: VAD Certification within last 1.5 years
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP, TNCC, EFM)
Key Responsibilities
- Coordinate monitoring of patients with ventricular assist devices during procedures and operations
- Collaborate with Materials Management and Equipment Technicians to maintain device inventory, tracking, and FDA recall response
- Serve as VAD Nurse Coordinator or VAD Engineer, proficient in VAD management
- Provide VAD patient education in accordance with regulatory standards
- Ability to take VAD call and assist with procedures
Required Skills and Experience
- Experience in Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) or similar critical care setting
- Proficiency in managing ventricular assist devices
- Ability to work independently during call shifts
- Strong communication and coordination skills
Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Criminal background check within 90 days, including multi-state and federal searches
- Education verification for highest degree required by position
- Drug screening within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to perform job duties without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunizations and health documentation including:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (within 1 year, updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titers
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption (required during flu season)
- COVID-19 vaccination strongly recommended; declination requires mask use during patient encounters
Competency Exams and Training
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (must score 80% or higher)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam with specific passing criteria (required for ICU and cardiac specialties)
- Facility-specific orientation and safety training modules
- Annual acknowledgment of safety manual
- Color blindness testing (online or in-person)
Additional Requirements
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least two years of experience within the last three years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education and license information
- Skills checklist updated annually
- Valid driver's license if driving is an essential job function
Notes
- Call shifts are primarily remote unless onsite presence is medically necessary
- Facility modules and training must be completed prior to start date
- Pending DC RN license status must be documented at submission and license must be obtained before starting
