Travel RN Med-Surg Position

Location: Portsmouth, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of hospital experience
• Active Compact RN license at submission
• BLS certification required
• IV certification required

Unit Information

• Unit: 3rd Medical, Shoals Building
• Number of Beds: 36
• Patient Ratios: Typically 1:6, occasionally 1:7 during surge
• Staffing: Unit Secretary (day shift only), LNA’s on both shifts
• Equipment: Telemetry
• Documentation System: Meditech Expanse
• Scheduling: 3 shifts of 12 hours each, every other weekend, rotating holidays
• Floating Policy: Float to same level of care
• Patient Experience: Bedside Shift Report, Hourly Safety Rounding, Personal Connections

Skills and Procedures

• Med-Surg experience required
• Advanced skills: IV certified
• Procedures performed on unit include:

  • Continuous Bladder Irrigation (CBI)
  • Wound care
  • Drain management (chest tubes, Jackson Pratt, etc.)
  • Foley catheter insertion
  • Central line dressing changes
  • Telemetry monitoring
  • EKGs as needed

Dress Code

• Scrubs (any color)

Additional Information

• Self-scheduling available, with leadership maintaining the right to balance schedules
• Unit uses new equipment and technology
• Experienced and tenured staff support the unit environment
