Registered Nurse (OR RN) - Travel/Contract

Location: Tyler, Texas
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse
  • Experience Required:
    • Minimum 2 years OR experience
    • Previous travel experience required
    • Experience in Orthopedics, General Surgery, Neurosurgery, Vascular, Urology
  • Unit Description:
    • Level 1 trauma center
    • Cases include Vascular, Heavy Ortho, General Surgery, Urology, Robotic, Neuro, Eyes (excluding hearts and transplants)
  • Skills Required:
    • General OR, trauma, endoscopy/laparoscopy, neuro, ortho, podiatry, thoracic, urology, vascular
    • Specific procedures: abdominal aortic aneurysm repair, carotid endarterectomy, endovascular aneurysm repair, femoral popliteal bypass graft, dilation & curettage
    • Aseptic technique
  • Shift: 5 days per week, 8-hour shifts (MIDS)
  • Call: Required
  • Rooms: 14
  • Certifications Required: BLS
  • Certifications Preferred: ACLS
  • Preferred Experience: Pediatrics and adolescent experience
  • Documentation: None required
  • Locals: No local candidates accepted from specified surrounding counties

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Preferred/As applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - As applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - As applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - As applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - As applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - As applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - As applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - As applicable
  • State License Verification (Primary source online verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification for RN

Background Checks & Verifications

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
  • HHS/OIG check upon hire
  • Education verification (highest level) required
  • Work history verification for 7 years
  • Transcript/Diploma may be accepted as placeholder if education verification is delayed
  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually
  • Adult Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD, QGOLD, or TSPOT) within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire for positive TB results, renewed annually
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters required if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Seasonal Flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination (Dose 1 and fully vaccinated) or approved medical/religious exemption required

Competency Exams

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% score or meet Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online version accepted)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% or meet Angoff score)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors, annual completion required)

Other Documentation

  • I9 form required for direct candidates
  • Driver’s License/State ID required
  • E-Verify required for direct candidates
  • Photo for badge (clear headshot) required
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist required annually

Additional Notes

  • No local candidates accepted from the following counties: Henderson, Anderson, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, Smith, Gregg, Van Zandt, Wood, Upshur, Camp, Hopkins, Franklin, Titus, and Morris.
  • This is a travel/contract position at a Level 1 trauma center with a diverse surgical caseload.
  • Call is required as part of the shift schedule.
