Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Nurse Opportunity

• Patient Population: Adult patients with acute cardiac and vascular conditions including:

  • Acute Coronary Syndrome
  • Bipap/CPAP with compromised gas exchange
  • Cardiac diagnoses requiring close monitoring
  • Post PTCA/stent care
  • Drug toxicity requiring advanced monitoring
  • ETOH withdrawal with airway compromise risk
  • Thrombolytic therapy for ACS or vascular patency
  • Major vascular surgery or leg bypass with comorbidities
  • Hypotension/hemodynamic instability
  • Insulin drip therapy
  • Heart failure
  • Carotid surgery
  • Electrical cardioversion
  • Active rewarming for temperature regulation

Clinical Requirements

• Minimum Clinical Experience: 1 year total, with 1 year in telemetry
• Certifications Required:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS (must be obtained prior to start)
• Telemetry experience required (minimum 1 year)
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years (required)
• Skills/Procedures:

  • Insulin drips
  • Cardiac drips
  • Starting IVs
  • Post cardiac catheterization care
  • Telemetry monitoring
• Orientation: 1-2 days

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 3:1
• CNA/PCT support: Yes, 3 per shift
• Telemetry tech support available
• Respiratory support available 24/7
• Anesthesia support not available 24/7
• Ventilator management: Only home ventilators on unit

Work Environment & Scheduling

• Dress Code:

  • Scrubs: Navy blue or white
  • Shoes: Closed toe, nonskid
  • Jewelry: Minimal
  • Hair/Beard: Groomed, professional; no beard allowed
  • Nail Polish: No artificial nails
• Documentation System: EPIC
• Medication System: MAK
• Floating: Required; nurses will be part of the Resource Float team and float to appropriate units
• Charge Nurse: Not required
• Shift Hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (specific schedule to be posted)
• Weekend Requirement: Usually every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
• Call Requirement: None
• Scheduling: No self-scheduling; no block schedules allowed

Additional Information

• Must start within 2 weeks of assignment
• All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
• Complete work history required including bed count, EMR, and facility type
• Reliable personal transportation required; public transportation is not accessible
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires during November and winter months

Contract Length

• 4 weeks (interpreted as 4 weeks based on contract length value)
