Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Germantown, Tennessee
Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Level I Trauma Center
Job Requirements
- Experience: Minimum 2 years required; first-time travelers not accepted unless they have 3+ years recent experience
- Schedule: On-call and weekend shifts as needed; no block scheduling except possibly weekend blocks (to be discussed)
- Local Candidates: Not accepted (strict 100-mile radius rule)
- Licensing: Must comply with Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) guidelines; no pending licenses accepted
- Special Requirements:
- Level I Trauma experience required
- Large hospital experience preferred
- Driver’s license must be included with submission
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Certifications Required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA or ARC only; required for ER, ICU, Telemetry, Stepdown, PACU, Cath Lab, Dialysis, RRT, L&D, and OR travelers at specified locations
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA or ARC only; required for all candidates except Phlebotomists, Med Techs, Dietitians
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): AHA or ARC only; required for Pediatrics, ER, PICU, Peds Oncology, and certain RRT and OR travelers
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): AAP only; required for Newborn Nursery, Postpartum, NICU, and certain RRT-NICU roles
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Preferred for ER, not required
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring): Intermediate AWHONN required for L&D within 2 years of start; Advanced AWHONN also acceptable
- NIH Stroke Certification: Required for all RNs except those at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital; expires every 2 years
- State License: Tennessee license or multistate license required; specific rules apply for certain tech roles
Background and Compliance Checks
- Background check within 60 days of start including statewide, county, federal, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and annually thereafter
- Sex offender search and Tennessee Adult Abuse Registry search (for TN facilities)
- Education verification required (diploma/transcript not accepted in lieu)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for 3M N-95 mask within 1 year; must pass prior to start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations required:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (proof of 2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
- Hepatitis B (3-shot series, positive titer, or declination)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer with boosters if needed)
- Tdap required only for candidates going to Children’s Hospital
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
- Negative 10-panel drug test within 30 days of start (no pending compliance accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination preferred but not required
Competency and Skills
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) required annually for Case Managers
- Color blind testing required for Medical Technologists
Facility Specific Information
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs for RNs; no prints or embroidered scrubs allowed
- Photo badge required prior to start with strict guidelines (passport-style photo, no glasses glare, no hats/head coverings except religious, no facial piercings)
- Confidentiality acknowledgment must be signed prior to start
- Submission packet includes application, references, skills checklist, state license verification, and certifications
References and Evaluations
- Two recent professional references required
- Performance evaluation required if employed with agency for 1 year or more
- Skills checklist must be updated annually
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with trauma and large hospital experience who meet strict licensing and compliance requirements and are willing to work on a travel contract basis in a Level I Trauma Center environment.
