Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics (RRT / Pediatrics)
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Teaching Hospital, Magnet, Level 1 Trauma
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) with Pediatrics focus
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: No
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities
- Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Radius Rule: 60 miles; local candidates considered case-by-case
Experience & Certification Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of experience required
- Pediatric, Neonate, and Infant experience required
- First-time travelers accepted
- Certifications required:
- RRT certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Licenses accepted: NBRC and South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider (SC RCP) license
- South Carolina RRT license must be active and in hand at start
- Epic charting experience preferred

Important Notes
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted with application and approved based on unit needs
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Valid Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background checks including:
- SSN Trace
- County and state criminal checks (7 years)
- Sex Offender Registry
- National Criminal and FACIS 3
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- State-specific searches (South Carolina Medicaid Excluded Providers)
- Clinical references (2 required)
- Employment history verification (last 3 clinical employers)
Certifications & Competencies
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only; required for some units but not pediatric units
- BLS – AHA or ARC only; required for all clinical staff
- PALS – Required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR; preferred for Pediatric OR
- NRP – Must be through AHA/AAP; full eCard with QR code required
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – Required as applicable; not required for ER RNs
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Required for Labor & Delivery; preferred for Mother/Baby; not required for NICU
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Color Blind Testing – Required prior to start
- Competency exams – Required; pediatric OR competency preferred for pediatric OR candidates
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Annual TB questionnaire
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Aug-April)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Sterile Processing Techs require additional physical assessment and lab panels
Facility Specific Requirements
- Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours)
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
- Upload COVID and flu vaccine documentation into facility system
- Radiation badge required for certain specialties (not applicable for RRT)
- Compliance with facility-specific safety and orientation protocols
This position offers an opportunity to work in a high-acuity pediatric teaching hospital with a focus on respiratory care. Candidates must meet strict licensure, certification, and health requirements to ensure compliance and patient safety.
