Registered Nurse - Labor and Delivery
Location: Akron, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Facility: Labor and Delivery unit
- Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (11:00 PM - 11:30 AM)
- Experience: Minimum 18 months permanent Labor and Delivery experience prior to travel
- Recent Experience: Minimum 18 months recent Labor and Delivery experience in home unit
- Licensure: Must have permanent Ohio nursing license or compact state license in hand
- Certifications Required:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Timekeeping: Qualivis – Lotus system used for submitting hours worked
Required Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Preferred but not required
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, NICU
- State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; license must be current
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start
- Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually
- Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam: Required as applicable
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for all bedside RNs (except OR) during orientation
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually
- Core Competencies (Parts I, II, III): Must be updated annually
Background Checks & Screening
- Background check required prior to start and must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start, updated annually
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract; facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite
- Education verification required for all candidates
- Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for candidates signing after 4/11/2025)
- Fit mask test (N95) within 12 months, updated annually
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if titers negative/equivocal
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- TB questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB test
- Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing after 4/11/2025
Employment History & References
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care and similar area
- Two professional references required from employment within one year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Co-worker references not accepted
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment
- Completion of facility-specific onboarding modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome)
- Pass/fail testing during orientation for EKG and medication administration
- Annual skills checklist required
- Photo for badge may be required (facility-specific)

This is a travel/contract Labor and Delivery RN position on the night shift in Akron, Ohio. Candidates must have significant recent and permanent Labor and Delivery experience, current Ohio or compact nursing license, and required certifications including BLS, ACLS, and NRP. Extensive background checks, health screenings, immunizations, and onboarding modules are mandatory prior to starting. The contract length is approximately 13 weeks.
