• Patient Population: Adult patients with acute cardiac and critical care needs including:

  • Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS)
  • Bipap/CPAP with compromised gas exchange
  • Cardiac diagnoses requiring close monitoring
  • Post PTCA/stent care with arterial/venous sheaths
  • Drug toxicity requiring advanced monitoring
  • ETOH withdrawal with airway compromise risk
  • Thrombolytic therapy for ACS or vascular patency
  • Major vascular surgery or leg bypass with comorbidities
  • Hemodynamic instability/hypotension
  • Insulin drip therapy
  • Heart failure
  • Carotid surgery
  • Electrical cardioversion
  • Active rewarming for temperature regulation

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Minimum 1 year clinical experience overall
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in telemetry or PCU
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS (must be completed prior to start)
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years is mandatory

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 3:1
• CNA/PCT support: Yes, 3 per shift
• Telemetry tech support available
• Respiratory support available 24/7
• Anesthesia support NOT available 24/7
• Ventilator management: Only home ventilators on unit

Orientation & Training

• Orientation length: 1-2 days
• ACLS training required
• Specialty testing: Not required

Job Duties & Procedures

• Float team assignment required (Resource Float team)
• Floating to appropriate units as needed
• No charge nurse responsibilities required
• Insulin drips, cardiac drips, starting IVs, post cardiac cath care
• Documentation system: EPIC
• Medication system: MAK

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (day and night shifts)
• Weekend requirement: Usually every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
• Call: Not required
• No block schedules
• Self-scheduling: No
• Contract length: 4 weeks (interpreted as 4 weeks)

Additional Information

• Must start within 2 weeks of assignment
• All employment gaps over 90 days must be explained
• Complete work history including bed count, EMR, and facility type required for submission
• Public transportation is NOT accessible; reliable personal or rental vehicle strongly recommended
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires November through April
• Dress code: Navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe nonskid shoes, minimal jewelry, groomed professional hair (no beard), no artificial nail polish

This position is ideal for nurses with telemetry experience who are comfortable working in a progressive care setting with acute cardiac patients and are willing to float within the facility.
