Travel RN - Pediatric Unit (Denver, CO)

Position Overview

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Pediatrics
  • Employment Type: Travel
  • Location: Pediatric Care Unit, 4th Floor, C Building
  • Shift: Night shift (7 PM - 7 AM); new travelers must be willing to work nights, no first contracts on day shift
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

  • Unit: Pediatric Care (36 beds, all private with parent sleeping accommodations)
  • Staffing:
    • Day shift: 1 charge nurse (patient free), 1-3 Patient Care Technicians (PCTs), occasional Clinical Nurse Coordinator (4 days/week)
    • Night shift: 1 charge nurse (patient free), 1-2 PCTs, occasional Clinical Nurse Coordinator (2 days/week or as staffing allows)
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Step-down patients (e.g., spinal fusions, chest tubes, high flow oxygen): 1:3
    • Basic care patients: 1:4
  • Patient Types: No CPAP, BiPAP, or trach/vent patients (these go to PICU)
  • Equipment: Phillips Monitors
  • EMR System: Meditech
  • Parking: On-site free parking with direct bridge access to the unit

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years pediatric acute care experience
  • Comfortable managing high flow oxygen, spinal fusions, chest tubes
  • Certifications: BLS, PALS
  • Registered Nurse License

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experienced travel nurses preferred
  • Candidates with multiple years of travel nursing experience prioritized

Typical Procedures Performed

  • Nasogastric tubes (NGTs)
  • Foley catheters
  • Tympanostomy tubes (TP Tubes)
  • Peripheral IVs (PIVs)
  • Phlebotomy (Accuvein available)
  • Occasional lumbar punctures (LPs)

Work Environment & Culture

  • Fast-paced unit
  • Team-oriented with emphasis on collaboration and mutual support
  • Scheduling flexibility is a priority; travelers’ scheduling requests are considered alongside full-time staff
  • Accepts all pediatric patients except trauma and burns

This position offers a dynamic pediatric nursing experience in a supportive, well-staffed environment with a focus on teamwork and schedule flexibility.
