Registered Nurse (MICU RN) - Florence, South Carolina

Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) Registered Nurse
  • Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Nights (7 PM - 7 AM), includes holiday rotation
  • Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • On-call: No
  • Floating: Yes, must float within scope to like units/sister facilities (agency staff floats first)
  • Local Radius: 60 miles (no local travelers accepted)
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 1 year (preferably 2 years)
  • First-time Travelers: Not accepted
  • Licenses: South Carolina RN license or Compact license required prior to start
  • Certifications Required:
    • ACLS (AHA or ARC only)
    • BLS (AHA or ARC only)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Additional Preferred Certifications:
    • PALS (AHA or ARC only)
    • NRP (AHA/AAP only)
    • TNCC, EFM, Chemo (not required for this location but may be for others)

  • Valid Driver’s License/State ID

  • I-9 form confirming work eligibility in the US

Background Checks

  • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Includes SSN trace, state and national criminal checks, sex offender registry, FACIS 3, and international searches
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • State-specific Medicaid Excluded Providers check (South Carolina)

Education & Licensure Verification

  • Primary source verification of SC RN license (3-5 weeks processing; walk-through/temp license option available if no background hits)
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Diploma or transcripts preferred but not required for clearance
  • Education verification not required for this facility

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form
  • Negative TB test (2-step PPD or Quantiferon Gold within 90 days; chest x-ray if positive)
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination form
  • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters if low titer
  • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccine highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated (no longer mandatory)
  • Respirator medical clearance annually for patient-facing staff

Facility-Specific Documents & Training

  • First Day Instructions and OurDay Modules (must be completed prior to start; approx. 4 hours)
  • Facility-specific forms including assignment acknowledgment, code of conduct, confidentiality agreements, HR policy manual, system user agreement, user access request, job description, HIPAA confidentiality agreement, and orientation acknowledgments
  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • COVID and flu vaccine documentation must be uploaded into the facility’s system

Competency Exams

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
  • Other competency exams as applicable

References & Work History

  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluation dated within 12 months of start
  • Verification of last 3 clinical employers (if applicable)

Additional Notes

  • Block scheduling may be requested but is not guaranteed
  • Radiation badge required only for specific departments (not applicable for MICU)
  • IV certification required only for select LPNs if applicable
  • Chemo certification not required for this location but may be for other campuses

This position is ideal for experienced MICU RNs with required certifications and South Carolina licensure, seeking a night shift travel assignment in an acute care setting with a 1:2 patient ratio.
