Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Akron, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Requirements
- Minimum of 18 months recent permanent CVOR experience required prior to travel
- Open Heart and Vascular experience preferred
- Prefer candidates who can both scrub and circulate
- Must work at least every other holiday
- One recent reference from a manager, ANM, supervisor, or director in the specialty is required for submission
- ECG rhythm recognition test and SafeMedicate test must be passed during orientation
Certifications & Competencies
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- ACLS (AHA Instructor or Provider; RQI acceptable)
- Pass/Fail ECG & Medication Testing during orientation (not required for legacy candidates with less than 6-month gap)
- State License Primary Source Verification within 30 days of start (must be current)
- NURSYS Verification within 30 days of start
- Core Competency Parts I, II, III (annual updates required)
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam as applicable
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (annual)
- Competency Exam (unit-specific, updated annually)
- CNOR preferred but not required for RNFAs
- TNCC required for ER; preferred for others
- National CVOR Certification (NBSTSA/ACST) required
- Preferred Certifications:
- PALS (preferred but not required)
- NRP (required for L&D, OB/GYN, NICU)
Background & Screening
- Background check required prior to assignment start, including:
- FCRA compliant 7-year search (SSN Trace, Counties, States, Nationwide, National Sex Offender, OFAC, FACIS Level 3, Education Verification)
- EPLS/GSA/SAM monthly checks
- HHS/OIG monthly checks
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) must be completed within 48 hours of signed contract and updated annually
- Education verification required for all candidates
- Drug testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months, updated annually (instant drug screens not accepted)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam (required for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later)
- Fit mask test (3M N95) within 12 months, updated annually
- Tdap vaccine every 10 years (religious/medical exemptions reviewed case-by-case; declinations not accepted)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; boosters if titers negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B - titer, series, or declination required
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31); declinations not accepted
- Eye exam required within 1 year of start for new candidates (Snellen exam)
Documentation & Compliance
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment
- Employment application must include 3 years prior work history with at least 2 years clinical practice in acute care in a similar area
- Two references required from employment within one year of start (manager, ANM, supervisor, charge nurse, or director)
- Annual skills checklist required
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start (must be done on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be completed on phone)
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background)
- SafeMedicate prep materials provided for orientation testing
Additional Notes
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start
- Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need updated physical, chest X-ray, and eye exam
- Candidates must complete all onboarding modules prior to clearance to start
- Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free gloves stocked
- Candidates must be aware of strict immunization and health documentation requirements; exemptions are reviewed but declinations are generally not accepted
