• Number of Beds: 36
• Staffing:

  • Day Shift: 1 charge nurse, 7 nurses, 3 Patient Care Technicians (PCT), 1 Unit Secretary (US)
  • Night Shift: 1 charge nurse, 6 nurses, 3 PCT
• Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 6 patients
• Equipment:

  • Computer on wheels
  • EKG machines
  • Defibrillators
  • Telemetry monitors
  • Tube feeding pumps
  • Suction regulators
  • Vital sign machines
  • Walkers and crutches
• Electronic Medical Record (EMR) System: Medi-tech

Required Skills and Experience

• Must Have:

  • Patient assessment
  • Critical thinking skills
  • Medication administration
  • Wound care
  • IV therapy
  • EHR proficiency
• Preferred:

  • Medical/Surgical experience
  • Intermediate Medical Unit (IMU) experience

Typical Procedures Performed

• IV starts
• Foley catheter insertion
• Nasogastric (NG) tube insertion
• Staple removal
• Continuous bladder irrigation
• Medication administration
• Vital sign monitoring
• Wound care and dressing changes
• Pre and post-operative care

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• NIH Certification

Work Environment and Culture

• Dress Code: Royal Blue scrubs
• Unit Schedule:

  • Unit huddles at 6:45 AM and 6:45 PM
  • Multidisciplinary rounds at 10:00 AM
• Weekend and On-Call: Every other weekend as scheduled
• Floating Areas: Medical/Surgical overflow
