Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (OR RN) - South Carolina, Columbia

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (OR RN)

  • Employment Type: Travel/Contract
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks
  • Shift: Day Shift, 4x10-hour shifts (6:30 AM - 5:00 PM)
  • On-Call Requirement: Yes
    • 1-2 call days per week starting at 5 PM
    • 1 call weekend every 5 weeks (Saturday 7 AM to Monday 7 AM; 48 hours total)
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including sister units/facilities

Experience & Licensing Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of nursing experience
  • License: South Carolina RN license or Multi-State/Compact RN license required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - required for all RNs
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - required for MS and ER units
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP only
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - required except for ER RNs
    • NIH Stroke Certification - required for ER
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - AWHONN or NCC accepted
  • Radiation Badge: Required and must be provided by the agency (mandatory for OR and related specialties)

  • Total Staffed Beds: 304
  • Charting System: Epic
  • Scrubs: Hospital-issued OR scrubs
  • Parking: Free parking available with a parking pass provided at badge pickup; garages and lots available

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval, dependent on unit needs
  • Local Radius: 60 miles
  • Locals Accepted: Yes
  • Guaranteed Hours: Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks; called off hours can be combined to equal 1 shift

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Checks:
    • Annual background check covering all locations lived/worked in the past 7 years
    • Must include SSN Trace, SC Statewide, National Criminal, Sex Offender Registry, FACIS 3, and others
    • Background check must be run within 90 days of start
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education Verification:
    • Required; diploma or official transcripts accepted as placeholders if verification is pending
  • Licensure Verification:
    • Primary source verification required showing active, unencumbered license with no pending actions
    • NURSYS verification required for RNs and LPNs/LVNs
  • Work History Verification:
    • Last 3 clinical employers verified through a third-party vendor
    • At least one reference from the same unit is required
  • Health Requirements:
    • Physical exam within 90 days of start, updated annually, confirming ability to work without restrictions
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or declination form required
    • Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days of start or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
    • Annual TB questionnaire completion required
    • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, and Hepatitis B
    • 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
    • Flu vaccine required during flu season or medical/religious exemption accepted (no declinations)
    • COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
    • Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required annually
  • Other Required Documents:
    • Clear, passport-style photo for badge (frontal view, solid light background)
    • Facility-specific forms including confidentiality, contractor forms, ID badge request, and job description acknowledgment
    • Completion of orientation modules prior to start (approx. 2 hours, must be done on a computer)
    • Radiation badge process must be initiated prior to start; candidates cannot begin work without it

Additional Notes

  • First-time travelers are accepted.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float between units as needed.
  • All certifications must be current and not expiring within 30 days of start.
  • Agency is responsible for providing radiation badges and tracking.
  • Modules and first day instructions will be sent after client clearance.
  • Parking is free but requires a pass distributed at badge pickup.

This position offers a structured day shift schedule with on-call responsibilities and requires a strong commitment to compliance and credentialing standards. It is ideal for experienced OR RNs who are flexible and able to meet the facility’s documentation and certification requirements.
