Progressive Care Unit (PCU) RN Travel Assignment

• Patient Population: Adult patients with diagnoses including:

  • Acute Coronary Syndrome
  • Bipap/CPAP with compromised gas exchange
  • Cardiac diagnoses requiring close monitoring
  • Post PTCA/stent with arterial/venous sheath
  • Drug toxicity requiring advanced monitoring
  • ETOH withdrawal with airway compromise risk
  • Thrombolytic therapy for ACS or vascular patency
  • Major vascular surgery or leg bypass with comorbidities
  • Hypotension/hemodynamic instability
  • Insulin drip therapy
  • Heart Failure
  • Carotid surgery
  • Electrical cardioversion
  • Active rewarming for temperature regulation

Experience & Certification Requirements

• Minimum 1 year clinical experience overall
• Minimum 1 year clinical experience in telemetry specialty
• Certifications required:

  • BLS (AHA)
  • ACLS (AHA)
  • NIHSS (must be obtained prior to start)
• Epic EMR experience within the past 2 years is required and non-negotiable

Staffing & Support

• Nurse-to-patient ratio: 3:1
• CNA/PCT support: Yes, 3 per shift
• Telemetry tech support available
• Respiratory support available 24/7
• Anesthesia support not available 24/7
• Ventilator management: Only home ventilators on unit

Job Duties & Unit Specifics

• Nurses will float as part of the Resource Float team to appropriate units
• Floating required
• No charge nurse responsibilities
• Insulin drips, cardiac drips, starting IVs, post cardiac cath care required
• Unit uses EPIC for documentation and MAK for medication system
• Orientation: 1-2 days
• Dress code: Navy blue or white scrubs, closed-toe nonskid shoes, minimal jewelry, groomed professional hair (no beard), no artificial nail polish

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Shift hours: 7 AM – 7 PM (specific schedule to be posted)
• Weekend requirement: Usually every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas/Christmas Eve, New Year’s Day/Eve)
• Call: No
• No block schedules allowed
• Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
• Complete work history required (bed count, EMR, facility type, etc.)

Additional Notes

• Reliable personal transportation required; public transportation is not accessible
• Vehicles should have all-season or snow tires during November and winter months
• Contract length: 4 weeks (interpreted as 4 weeks)
• Must be licensed and ready to start within 2 weeks

This assignment is ideal for experienced telemetry RNs comfortable with acute cardiac and progressive care patients, who are flexible with floating and weekend/holiday shifts.
