Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT) - Pediatrics
Location: Charleston, South Carolina
Facility Type: Teaching Hospital, Magnet, Level 1 Trauma
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Details
- Specialty: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics
- Role: Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) for Pediatrics (Neonate and Infant experience required)
- Shift: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- On-call: Not required
- Floating: May float within scope depending on experience; no floating to sister facilities
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years pediatric respiratory experience
- First-timers: Accepted
Certifications & Licenses Required
- RRT Certification (NBRC and South Carolina Respiratory Care Provider license required at start)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for all pediatric units except Pediatric OR
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA/AAP certified with full eCard
- State License: South Carolina RRT license must be active and in hand at start
- Additional preferred: Epic experience
Scheduling & Work Conditions
- Holiday rotation included
- Block scheduling may be accommodated with prior approval (not guaranteed)
- Radius rule: 60 miles; locals accepted on a case-by-case basis
- Guaranteed hours: Facility may call off 1 shift every 2 weeks
- Hurricane season (June-November) may require emergency response team participation

Required Documentation & Compliance
- Proof of work eligibility (I-9 form)
- Copy of Driver’s License/State ID
- Social Security Card or SSN verification
- Background check covering 7 years of residence/work history, including:
- SSN Trace
- Statewide and national criminal checks
- Sex offender registry
- FACIS 3 and international searches if applicable
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Education verification or diploma/transcripts as placeholder
- References: 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Employment application with complete work history and no unaccounted gaps
- Competency exams as applicable (including medication/pharmacology and OR competency if applicable)
- Color blindness test prior to start
- Facility-specific orientation modules and first day instructions must be completed before orientation
- Clear, passport-style badge photo required before start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet job demands
- Fit test for N95 mask (O&M Halyard FLUIDSHIELD or 3M Aura 1870+) within 90 days prior to start, renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers:
- Tdap within 10 years or declination form
- Negative TB test (T-spot or Q-Gold) within 90 days or proof of prior positive with chest x-ray
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Hepatitis B: Titer, vaccine series, or declination
- Varicella: Positive titer or vaccination series with boosters if low titer
- Drug screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests)
- Seasonal flu vaccine required during flu season (Aug 1 - Apr 30) or medical/religious exemption (no declinations accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination highly preferred; declination form required if not vaccinated
- Sterile Processing Techs (if applicable) require additional physical assessment and lab panels (CMP and CBC with differential)
Additional Notes
- Radiation badge required only for specific roles (not applicable for RRT)
- All certifications must be valid and not expiring within 30 days of start
- Pending state licenses must be approved prior to start; walk-through/temp licenses available under certain conditions
- Travelers must upload all required documentation into the facility’s system (OurDay) before starting
- Failure to complete required modules or submit documentation may result in being sent home or delayed start
