Job Opportunity: Surgical Services - Scrub Tech (Travel/Contract)

Location: Knoxville, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Job Description

  • Must have recent required experience in Surgical Services, specifically as a Scrub Tech.
  • Strong neuro and orthopedic experience required.
  • Work schedule:
    • 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday
    • On-call 3-4 nights per week (3 PM to 7 AM)
    • Every other weekend on call
    • Holiday rotation required (all travelers must work at least one holiday shift as assigned by management).
  • Float requirements apply.
  • Orientation is bi-weekly.
  • The facility does not approve pre-arranged Return to Office (RTO) at booking; all RTO must be approved by the manager during the assignment.
  • Candidates must be willing to forego pre-approved RTO before submitting.

Required Certifications

  • NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certification required
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment (verify with program management if unclear):
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • CHEMO (Chemotherapy)
    • OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
    • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
    • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • Tech Cert Verification (for Clinical Lab Scientists)
    • State License Verification and NURSYS Verification (for nursing licenses)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background Check:

    • Must be completed within 45 days of start and updated annually.
    • Includes 7-year SSN trace with complete address history, alias verification, national and state sex offender checks, criminal searches, abuse registry, and federal checks.
    • Alias Name Attestation required if applicable.
  • Health Documents:

    • Physical exam within 12 months prior to start, signed by MD, DO, NP, APRN, or PA (Chiropractor not accepted).
    • Negative TB test (QGold or Skin Test) within 1 year; T-spots not accepted.
    • TB Questionnaire required.
    • Immunizations/vaccinations: MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (required for 2025-26 season with no declinations accepted; exemptions only for medical/religious reasons with proper documentation).
    • Drug testing within 45 days of start, including a comprehensive panel of substances.
    • Photo for badge (passport style, solid background, no filters or facial piercings).
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam
    • Color Blind Testing (within 12 months)
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (for RNs)
    • Core Competency Exams (Parts I, II, III) with minimum 80% pass rate, updated annually.
  • History and References:

    • 2 supervisory references from employers within the last 3 years.
    • Employment application with 7-year work history, no unexplained gaps over 30 days, and active nursing license details.
  • Skills Checklist:

    • Unit-specific skills checklist updated within the last year.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must be prepared for holiday shifts and on-call responsibilities.
  • Strong neuro and orthopedic surgical experience is emphasized.
  • All certifications must be current and uploaded as actual certificates (screenshots or photos are not accepted).
  • Facility-specific onboarding documents and attestations must be completed prior to start.
  • Candidates must be willing to comply with all facility-specific requirements and policies.
