Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract Position
Location: Elkins, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Specialty: Emergency Room Registered Nurse
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, Mid shifts (11am-11pm), weekdays, some weekends and holidays
- Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ER nursing experience
- Licensure: Must hold a Compact State license or have a pending license
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- Charting System Experience: AllScripts and McKesson
- Travel Experience: First-time travelers not accepted; prior travel experience required
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
- Work Requirements: Must be willing to work weekends; blocked schedule not guaranteed but shifts will be grouped when possible
- Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Flu Vaccine: Required during flu season with medical exemptions considered only (signed doctor’s note and medical exemption request form required). Religious exemptions are not accepted.
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start; updated annually thereafter
- Immunizations & Titers:
- TDAP vaccine within 10 years
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination with signed declination form; vaccine series alone not accepted
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines; boosters required if negative/equivocal
- Drug Testing: 12-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, including alcohol and multiple drug categories
- Respiratory Safety Clearance: Required and updated annually
Background & Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Fingerprinting (WV CARES) required for certain units; provisional employment possible while pending
- State-specific WV Nurse Aid Registry check required for applicable facilities
- Verification of state license and NURSYS verification required
Documentation & Onboarding
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
- Completed employment application/resume
- Annual skills checklist and competency exams (medication/pharmacology competency required)
- Facility-specific documents including:
- Photo for badge (passport-style)
- Patient Rights and Responsibilities acknowledgment
- Confidentiality and Security Agreement
- Completion of CareLearning modules prior to start (approx. 3-4 hours)
- Onboarding checklist completed by contracting agency
Additional Notes
- Blocked scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed
- Candidates must carry government-issued photo ID during hours of service
- Flu vaccine documentation must include specific details (administered date, lot number, manufacturer, site of injection, expiration date, clinic info)
- Candidates may be sent home or have start date delayed if CareLearning modules are not completed before first shift
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses with travel experience who meet licensure and certification requirements and are comfortable working mid shifts with some weekend and holiday coverage.
