Travel RN Opportunity – Operating Room

Location: Idaho Falls, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Information

• Unit: Operating Room (OR)
• Beds: 13 ORs
• Staff: 25 RNs, 29 CSTs
• Shifts & Staffing:

  • Monday-Friday

    • 06:30-15:00: 13 RNs / 13 CSTs (up to 10 rooms)
    • 15:00-17:00: 8 RNs / 8 CSTs (up to 7 rooms)
    • 17:00-19:00: 6 RNs / 5 CSTs (up to 4 rooms)
    • 19:00-23:00: 3 RNs / 2 CSTs (up to 2 rooms)
    • 23:00-07:00: 1 RN / 1 CST (trauma coverage)
  • Weekends

    • 07:00-07:00: 1 RN / 1 CST (trauma coverage)
    • Saturday includes an additional call team running two rooms from 06:30-15:00
• Trauma Team: 1 RN / 1 CST available during off hours
• Additional: 1 CST for Labor & Delivery call
• Patient Volume: Average 50 hours of surgical time per day (Monday-Friday); weekends vary with Saturday heavier than Sunday
• EMR System: Meditech

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 3+ years of Operating Room experience
• Trauma experience
• Shift and call flexibility

Preferred Qualifications

• CNOR certification
• Burn experience
• Robotic surgery experience
• Neuro surgery experience

Typical Procedures Performed

• Burn: Wound debridement, skin grafting, dressing changes (high acuity, mostly ICU patients)
• Dental: Restoration and oral maxillofacial procedures
• ENT: Tonsillectomy & adenoidectomy (T&A), parathyroidectomy, cochlear implants
• Gastroenterology: EGD, colonoscopy
• General Surgery: Wide variety of procedures
• Gynecology: Ablations, vaginal and abdominal hysterectomies
• Neuro: Stealth procedures, spinal fusions, discectomy, craniotomy
• Open Heart: CABG, fempop, fistulas
• Ophthalmology: Vitrectomy, cataracts, corneal transplant
• Orthopedics: Trauma, total joints, sports medicine
• Plastics: Breast augmentation and reconstruction
• Psychiatry: Electroconvulsive therapy
• Robotics: Gynecology, general surgery, urology
• Trauma: Damage control resuscitative surgery (neuro, ortho, general)
• Urology: Cystoscopy, TURB, TURP, stents

Scheduling & Call

• Weekend call rotation every 4 weeks
• Call used to fill evening/night staffing gaps Monday-Thursday
• Call shifts typically 2, 4, 8, or 12 hours
• Efforts made to limit combined work and call hours to no more than 60 hours per week

• 36 hours guaranteed per week
